ARTIST STATEMENT

Why do you use the medium that you use?

I use pencil because one pass over my art is never good enough for me. I’m always tweeking it and adding details during and after I finish a piece as they come to mind. You notice details you didn’t see before, after a few weeks on idle.

What role does art play in your life?

Art is my therapy. When I start a piece and put some music on everything else melts away and for those hours, I’m free. Nothing else exists in this world except for the piece in front of me. Without it, I don’t know where I’d be today or where I’d be headed tomorrow.

What inspires you to create your art?

Everything from memories to dreams, song lyrics, and even mythology. I never know what’s gonna turn a bulb on in my mind, but once it happens it’ll consume my thought until I put pencil to paper. It has to challenge me every time though and every piece I do, my goal is to improve and advance my love of artistry I put out there before. 

The memory of just cruising around in your car with your crush next to you and nothing but open road in front of you is what inspired the piece. A moment in time I think everyone can relate to. To me, it’s freedom.
