Inspiration:

Connection between a mother and their child. My Hmoob culture, specifically Green Hmoob. Keeping the theme of connection, I feel that culture, rivers, relationships, roads, bridges, nature connects us all. There is a ripple effect because everything is connected. I want them to look at this and know "this is Hmoob Ntsuab mother and her daughter." I didn't put a face because I want others to relate to the pictures.

What role does art play in your life?

My feelings, emotions, experiences and thoughts inspired my art. Art allows me to express myself without the viewers bias. They look at the art and judge it for what it is, not who is behind the painting.. . at first .

Artist statement:

For the first time in my life I've actually had the time to sit down and process my feelings, emotions and thoughts through art. I need to be able to express myself through art and this class has taught me so much, not only about technique but myself. Art gives me a way to express my thoughts, feeling and bare my soul (essentially) and give it to the viewers to interpret. Every person that looks at a painting will interpret differently. Every artist will draw and express themselves differently in their art forms. I am still learning how, as I learn more about myself. I hope to be able to express it, show my journey of growth through it.
