Seeking Videographer and Documentary Artist

We’re looking for someone, or a team of people, enthusiastic about telling every day, authentic stories through film, audio, and photographs. We’re working on a passion project that means a lot to us and we’d like someone to document it. We think the right person is someone who has an eye and ear for storytelling or someone who is interested in documentary work.

This project is designed for the general public including those directly impacted by incarceration, those interested in criminal justice reform, the formerly incarcerated, and the broader art community. Art can be enjoyed and interpreted by anyone and cuts across all demographics. In addition to experiencing the art and reading the personal statements by the artists, participants can participate in a facilitated community dialogue about incarceration, forgiveness and healing. As incarcerated artist Christian Burch puts it, “By giving the incarcerated artists a platform, we encourage redemption narratives and a public belief in second chances.”

Our project will give voice to people that have been marginalized by creating the opportunity for incarcerated artists to bring their art and their humanity out into the community, and to nurture the public’s belief in the value of all people and that every person is more than their worst mistake. As someone who interacts daily with the incarcerated, I see their incredible creative talents. It is my vision to empower these men through this project so that when they return to our communities, they will have a stronger understanding of who they are and what they can do.

For the incarcerated, the arts are an important tool to inspire behavioral change, personal growth and transformation. The vision for this project is to empower incarcerated artists to develop a deeper knowledge of self and embark on a journey towards healing and rehabilitation. The hope for the project is to remind us all of our shared humanity, invite us to examine our assumptions about the incarcerated, and encourage each of us to see that we are all more than our worst mistakes.

When do we need someone?

We’d like someone who is available right away but we can also be flexible. If you’re interested, talk to us!
