Shades of Growth by Pierce H.

Acrylic

Meet the artist: Pierce H.

Inspiration:

I wanted to make a piece that showed there are levels to personal growth. I wanted to show the levels are not perfect, the process is not perfect and it may get a little messy. But, in the end, there is beauty in the chaos of personal growth.

Artist statement:

I have no clue what I'm doing when it comes to art. When I started this class, I could do a stick figure and a tree. Now, I have an idea of what I'm doing but it is not a clear picture. I'm still learning about my artistic abilities and I may not ever get into a museum and that's ok. I don't have aspirations to get to that level - I never will - because I'm just enjoying what I'm doing. If you would have asked me to join an art class six month ago I don't know if I would have joined. I struggle with perfectionism and being in a vulnerable position with art, when compared to others in the group, looks like it may make the fridge was unthinkable to me. However, this class was offered at the right time and I was encouraged to take the course. Now, I'm find with showing my imperfect artwork and being exposed to criticism because my artwork is OK, and so am I.
