Meet the artist: Cheryl “Mistori” Albert

Inspiration:

The inspiration for this piece is America as the promised land it once was. A safe haven of opportunity for those in the pursuit of happiness. The example to the world that humanity and progress exist. My connection to this piece lies in solidarity with all women around the world who are brutalized, marginalized, and overlooked.

What role does art play in your life?

In my life, art is the podium I stand behind to voice my message. Whether it is something as intimate as my love for my child, a loved one I've lost, or a wrong that weighs heavy on my heart. It is this inner desire to start my voice that drives and inspires me to create art. When I am gone, I hope that my art inspires someone, or some system, to change for the good of the world my child will grow up in.

Artist statement:

My artist name is Mistori. I chose to sign my work with the pseudonym because my art, much like my life story, has been a mistori. The idea of creating something lasting from a blank canvas brings hope for a future where I can do the same. I am enjoying finding who I am as an artist. I am finding freedom and purpose in my artistry. But most of all, I am finding meaningful connection with people beyond these walls. I am so thankful for the opportunity to share my culture, hopes, dreams, sadness, joy, and most importantly my voice. Thank you for viewing my artwork. Fortes Fortuna Juvat
